After a morning checking out the golf retail on International Drive in Orlando, we made our way over to the David Leadbetter Academy at ChampionsGate.
GolPhin has been the David Leadbetter Preferred Supplier for junior golf clubs for the last 18 months, and the team at ChampionsGate are doing a fantastic job at introducing the game to the younger kids. Jana Peterkova has recently rejoined the Leadbetter Golf Academy team to develop the younger age categories and has real passion for getting these younger players on the right golfing path.
The facilities at the Leadbetter Golf Academy are something to behold. The practice are covers four-acres and has been designed to accommodate groups of all sizes. There are two putting greens totalling over 16,000 sqft, and two chipping greens totalling 8,000 sqft, as well as a large multi-target pitching area with 12 target bunkers.
Inside the Academy, you’ll find an Odyssey Putting Lab with all conceivable angles of Video capture and live data feedback. You’ll also find some very interesting comparable data on Tiger Woods from 2010. What most astonished us was that Tiger’s technique saw him with an open putter face at address, and an open to closed face action which sees the putter close through impact. This combined with a relatively straight back and through putting path would seem, at least to us, a different technique to expectation from a prolific world No.1. The key difference to all of the other stats that we saw?
His consistency percentage was over 95%! No wonder he was so good from ten feet and in at that point in his career!
As you work your way along the internal corridor at the Academy, you’ll reach David Leadbetter’s personal teaching bay which is setup to hit balls from outside, inside and then also hit balls into a simulated screen, all of which have hitting areas loaded with technology.
As the David Leadbetter Academy has selected GolPhin as its Preferred Supplier for Junior Golf Equipment we’ll be working closely with Leadbetter Academy’s around the UK, Europe, US and the rest of the world to help bring more juniors golfers into the game.
